This article gives a review ofthe results of exploration and production of oil and gas in Germany in 2006.The report is based on data collected regularly by the State Authority for Mining,Energy and Geology (LBEG)from the oil companies and the other State mining offices.Activities of oil and gas exploration were at the similar level as in thepreviousyear.Geo-physical prospecting dropped slightly how-ever the amount of exploration wells not changed.The acreage of 3D seismic decreased to 160 Square kilometres.160 kilometres of 2D seismic lines were acquired.The surveys are located in the foreland of the Alps and Northern Germany.No gravimetric survey was carried out.Five new field wildcats were drilled to find new gas fields and oil fields.One well is to be added which was suspended in the year before.Four wells were completed,all of them were dry.In the vicinity of producing fields three exploration wells (new pool tests) were drilled.In addition one suspended well was completed which was drilled to total depth in 2005.Two wells found gas,one was dry,and the fourth was not drilled to total depth at end of year.One shallow stratigraphic fest was completed successful.Contrary to expectations the number of wells in field development dropped signifi-cantly and amounted to 18.Twelve wells were successful.Thereof eleven wells were completed as oil or gas wells and one well as a Service well.Along with the number of drilling projects the footage decreased.Compared to the pre-vious year footage dropped by 18 percent to 53,415 metres.German annual gas production was nearly unchanged compared to the previous year and decreased only by 0.5 percent to 19.7 billion cubic metres (field quality).Due to the lack of discoveries and reassess-ments of fields the total remaining proven and probable natural gas reserves fall by 22.5 billion cubic metres and amounted to 255 billion cubic metres (field quality).Although production of some fields couldbe increased German annual oil production de-clined by 1.6 percent to 3.5 million metric tons.Total remaining proven and probable oil reserves decreased by 5.6 million tons,which was more than the annual production,and amounted to 41 million tons.
