Rosneft, Trafigura close $12.9-billion purchase of India's Essar Oil refinery

Russia’s energy major Rosneft (Moscow), oil trader Trafigura (Amsterdam), and Russian fund UCP closed a $12.9 billion purchase of Indian refiner Essar Oil today, giving the companies a foothold in India, among the world's fastest-growing oil users. The partners bought a 98.26 stake in Essar Oil in a deal first announced in October. Rosneft closed its transaction to acquire 49.13 of Essar Oil (EOL) shares from Essar Energy Holdings while an investment consortium comprising Trafigura and UCP has closed its acquisition of a separate 49.13 share of EOL.
