Positive outlook for North American polyolefin producers

The future looks good for North America’s polyolefin producers, according to analysts who spoke last week at the IHS Global Plastics Summit in Chicago. Global polyethylene (PE) capacity will grow 3.7 million m.t./year more than demand next year, and operating rates will drop in every region, with the global rate dropping from 86 in 2015 to 84, says Nick Vafiadis, global business director/plastics polyolefins at IHS Chemical.
