Indonesian coal exports forecast to fall sharply

Indonesian thermal coal exports are forecast to fall sharply between now and 2019, as more of the country’s production is diverted away from the seaborne market to meet an expected increase in domestic demand. Thermal coal shipments from Indonesia, the world’s largest exporter of the fuel, have already been in decline since 2013 when they reached a peak of 402mn t, with weaker demand from several key markets, notably China, weighing on demand.
