IEA: $1.2 trillion investment in hydrogen needed by 2030 to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050

Putting the low-carbon hydrogen sector on the path to global net zero emissions by 2050 needs $1.2 trillion of investment between now and 2030, according to a new report released today by the International Energy Agency (IEA; Paris, France). Governments need to move faster and more decisively on a wide range of policy measures to enable hydrogen to fulfill its emissions potential while supporting energy security, it says. Countries with hydrogen strategies have committed at least $37 billion to the development and deployment of hydrogen technologies, with the private sector having announced additional investment of $300 billion, it says.
