The Times, They Are A'Changing!

The year 2009 was a really rough one for the semiconductor industry. Overall attendance at the International Symposium for Testing and Failure Analysis (ISTFA) was down that year, and the Expo was more like a mausoleum. Since that time, the Electronic Device Failure Analysis Society's (EDFAS's) Board of Directors has observed a robust return to historic numbers for ISTFA vendor attendance. While an increase in numbers has occurred among the nonvendor ISTFA attendees, the numbers are still lower than historic values, despite a recovered economy and robust sales in semiconductors. This is a key issue the EDFAS Board has discussed at length during our monthly and face-to-face meetings. If we treat membership as a business, large or small, we need to identify potential growth opportunities. These opportunities can include expanding EDFAS into new markets and growing our core failure analysis (FA) audience.
