paraA newly published model performance specification from the DOE's Municipal Solid-State Street Lighting Consortium helps cities interested in switching to LED Street lighting make best use of the technology. The model specification's format allows users to modify default values according to local needs, conditions and design criteria, and from application to application within a city. The new specification, put together effective bid documents for LED street lighting products to help manufacturers to design products that meet their customers' needs. The Consortium has also come out with an economic cost-benefit analysis tool, which it developed in collaboration with the Clinton Climate Initiative. The Consortium is working on a number of other tools, including a guidance document to help users customize the new model specification to their own needs, and a separate specification for adaptive controls, which will help cities take full advantage of the potential of dimming and scene setting for events and time of day./para
