摘要

TODAY, everyone seems to be on V, a tight schedule; we measure activities in minutes. What do people do with that carefully parsed out time? Work, and generally as much as possible: holding early-morning breakfast meetings, spending lunch hours catching up on email, making conference calls from the train. It's how we improve our productivity. According to a 2004 Scientific American/Hams Interactive poll, 90 percent of Americans say they "multitask," defined as doing two or more dissimilar jobs at once. Most of the time, these tasks are work-related: 47 percent said they send emails while talking on the phone, and 29 percent claim they "do business by phone" while playing with their children.
