At a recent CIC Economic and Policy Forum, Tracey Cull of Building Regulation and Standards, DCLG, discussed the thinking and plans for Building Control in England. Tracey explained that the Coalition priorities are to deregulate and streamline wherever possible to reduce burdens to business, a smaller role for Government empowering the individual and Decentralisation, Localism and the 'Big Society'. They only want to regulate when it is essential after all other options have been rejected. It must be effective and deliver what it sets out to do referring to One-In-One-Out on costs of regulation to business, reducing the regulatory burden on the house-building industry, a micro business moratorium and looking at existing regulation (Red Tape Challenge). Government wants to be the greenest Government ever with continuous improvementin energy efficiency of new housing and wants to further improve compliance of regulations.
