The Association of Building Engineers recognises that there are many professionals working within the Construction Industry who hold senior positions of responsibility based on their knowledge and experience. The educational system and the move to honours degree level entry have seen many of the diploma/part-time routes to academic qualification cease. The Association provides the following routes to membership: The Mature Entry Route (MER) has been designed and developed for individual candidates who hold a mixture of academic qualification and industrial construction experiences. Candidates will have to meet set requirements to become (MER) members: candidates must be 35 years of age hold an HNC qualification or equivalent hold a responsible position within their organisation. Applicants are required to produce a fully detailed CV which includes clear examples of previous work. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is assessed prior to a professional interview. The interviews focus on two aspects of the candidate's CV. The first aspect explores the experience gained, while the second reviews CPD carried out. Candidates will also be questioned on current developments within the industry. Candidates may wish to attend a seminar which will provide the necessary information and skills required.
