摘要

EARMERS ARE BECOMING increasingly distressed at seeing "insidious" trees reappearing across the landscape. Fearing the prospect of being smothered beneath a blanket of bluegums, they and their allies are crying foul. Commenting on the trend United Dairy Farmers of Victoria central councillor Max Jelbart says young dairy farmers already find it difficult to buy land and now have to compete against banks backed by investors desperate to offload their tax problems. "If they [tree companies] were buyingon commercial terms then it would be all right, but they get tax breaks that make it impossible for dairy farmers to compete."
