The first 2012 Olympics prize has already been secured in respect of the UK's selection as the venue for the Games. Yet, whilst the Games will last for only six weeks, the physical legacy will last for at least fifty years, whilst the social and economic changes enshrined by the Olympic committee's plans will last a lifetime. However, the task of organising the event and constructing the venues is only just beginning. Revolutionary advances will be made in the scale and quality of many new, multi-million pound stadia. Currently in the planning stage these impressive structures will incorporate state-of-the-art facilities and bring together many international sportsmen and women, thousands of spectators, VIPs, and international businesses; whilst the power of global media means that for many more millions, the Olympics 2012 will be transmitted directly into their homes.
