It must surely be every golfers dream to score a hole in one, satisfying the ultimate objective of the game of golf-to hit the ball from tee to green in as few shots as possible. Such a feat is often more attributed to an element of luck than skill, the golfer having little influence over how the ball travels over the putting surface to enter the hole. As the player stoops to remove the ball from the hole the last thing on his/her mind are the processes that have occurred earlier in the day when thegreenkeeping staff selected that particular hole location. Contrast that with a missed putt on the 18th to lose the round-who's to blame? Slow greens, bumpy surfaces, an unfair pin position, the list could be endless.
