Vietnam and Russia agreed to cooperate in upstream oil and gas projects, nuclear power and weapons purchases during a visit to Russia this week by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. State firms Petrovietnam and Gazprom inked a deal to form a joint venture, Gazpromviet, to carry out upstream work in Russia and third countries. They have already set up a company, Vietgazprom, that has begun 2-D seismic surveys of four blocks off Vietnam - 129, 130, 131 and 132 (IOD Jun.2,p8).
