The biggest shareholder in Dutch utility Nuon - the Dutch province of Gelderland with 44.7% - said it will sell its stake to Sweden's Vattenfall, which agreed a ?10.3 billion ($14.3 billion) deal to buy Nuon's generation and distribution assets in February (IOD Feb.24,p8). About 76% of Nuon's shares are held by three Dutch provinces and municipalities - Amsterdam, Noord- Holland and Gelderland. Vattenfall said it will initially buy 49%, with the remaining 51% purchased over six years. Effective control of Nuon will pass to Vattenfall once it gets 49%.
