摘要

Ferrofluids, also called magnetic fluids, are stable colloidal suspensions, of which the flow and energy transport processes can be controlled by applying an external magnetic field. The objective of this paper is to provide a comprehensive review of the significant efforts the researchers have made to understand the coupled magnetism and flow/heat transfer behaviors of ferrofluids. Ferrohydrodynamic equations, transport properties, thermomagnetic convection, including convective instability and convective heat transfer are covered. Particular emphasis is placed on the studies related to thermal systems. In addition, some potential opportunities for future research in the area of flow and heat transfer of ferrofluids are identified.
