A patient portal for chronic disease management

The emergence of the internet coupled with its increase in bandwidth and overall accessibility to the populace has redefined the human interactions. However, despite sporadic growth of technology adoption in most facets of everyday living, there appears to be a lag as it pertains to healthcare. The goal of this paper is to review pertinent literature as it pertains to the development of a patient portal; evaluate how patient portal affect current personal health records (PHR) research; determining what content the patient should have control over, compliance with HIPAA directives, and evaluate some attempts at patient portals that have already been made. All of which will cumulate in the creation of a patient portal, which grant more information to the limitations and possibly shed light on the possible adoption strategies.
