摘要

Abstract The present work focuses on studying the erosion-corrosion behaviour of high-tensile brass and nickel aluminium bronze. The effect of silicon content in the high-tensile brass and test parameters such as slurry concentration, slurry speed and silica sand particle size on erosion-corrosion performance is studied. All the castings were fabricated using permanent mould technique, and the erosion-corrosion test was performed using slurry erosion test rig. The test was carried out in 3.5 NaCl solution with silica sand as erodent material, and the entire slurry was made to rotate at predefined speeds. The microstructure analysis for RB031 and RB032 alloy showed formation of manganese silicide while NAB alloy showed iron-rich intermetallic phases. The microhardness test was conducted, and out of all, the RB032 alloy showed highest microhardness value of 299 HV. The erosion-corrosion test results showed that as the slurry concentration, slurry speed and size of silica sand were increased, the weight loss of all alloys was found to increase. However, the RB032 alloy showed better resistance against erosion-corrosion when compared with other alloys under all testing conditions.
