European megamajor Royal Dutch Shell Pic cited the American Fuel Petrochemical Manufacturers(AFPM)association's lack of support for the 2015 Paris Climate Accord as a reason for allowing its membership to lapse in 2020.The company also noted its own promotion of low-carbon technologies and support of a carbon tax, both of which the AFPM has expressed opposition to.Shell said its position on climate change is out of sync with nine other trade groups in which it participates, but it plans to continue engaging with them in an effort to reshape their positions. The company issued a report that investigated if its climate change work could be undermined by its association with certain lobbying groups and found there was a “material misalignment” with the AFPM.The report also named the US Chamber of Commerce and die API as groups that the company believes have inadequate stances on climate change.Flowever,Shell lauded the API's efforts in the realm of methane emissions reductions as well as its advocacy for trade and transport issues at both the state and federal levels.
