The method of polarized orbitals of Temkin used for slow electron atom scattering is extended to interactions of the type (H, H*) andlpar;H, pplus;, eminus;rpar;, where the excited electron is of high principal quantum number if bound or lowkif in the continuum. The equation of motion for the excited electron is derived, and the solution written as a partial wave expansion. All direct potentials are calculated, and applications are discussed.
