A strain BJQ-Z6 capable of highly degrading chlorothalonil was isolated from soil. The strain BJQ-Z6 was identified as Bacillus coagulans based on 16S rRNA and analysis of morphology, physiological and biochemical characters. The optimal pH value and temperature were 7.0 and 45-50°C. The 7d degradation rate of 100 mg/L chlorothalonil by strain BJQ-Z6 could reach about 98.9 in mineral salt medium. The combined applications of the strain BJQ- Z6 and the strain BJQ-Z1 was considered an effective means for rapidly degrading chlorothalonil. The degradation rate of chlorothalonil (100mg/L) by the strain BJQ-Z6 and the strain BJQ-Z1 could reach about 99.5 in 6d. In addition, the strain BJQ-Z6 showed a high tolerance to chlorothalonil. It was believed that the strain BJQ-Z6 could be used for control of chlorothalonil (or hydroxychlorothalonil) pollution.
