The photodissociation spectrum of SO+2corresponding to the process SO+2+hngr;rarr;SO++O has been measured on a triple quadrupole system for the wavelength ranges: 3000ndash;3400 and 4400ndash;5120 Aring;. The spectrum in the visible has been assigned to theCtilde;thinsp;2B1larr;Atilde;thinsp;2A2transition and vibrational structure analyzed to yield lgr;00=4187 Aring;, the harmonic vibrational frequencies ngr;tilde;rsquo;1=953 cmminus;1, ngr;tilde;rsquo;rsquo;2=499 cmminus;1, ngr;tilde;rsquo;1=767 cmminus;1, and ngr;tilde;2=410 cmminus;1, and the anharmonicity constantsXlsquo;11=minus;6.3 cmminus;1,Xrsquo;rsquo;12=minus;6.1 cmminus;1,Xlsquo;22=minus;4.2 cmminus;1,X12=minus;6.3 cmminus;1, andXrsquo;22=minus;7.4 cmminus;1. Apparent photodissociation cross sections ranged from sim;1times;10minus;20ndash;1.6times;10minus;19cm2in the visible spectrum. In the UV spectrum the highly congested vibrational structure could not be resolved sufficiently for analysis; photodissociation cross sections ranged from sim;2ndash;4times;10minus;19cm2with broad bands roughly corresponding to expected progression in ngr;1and ngr;rsquo;2within theCtilde;thinsp;2B1larr;Xtilde;thinsp;2A1electronic transition. The process SO+2+hngr;rarr;S++O2showed an onset near 3108 Aring; and the corresponding photodissociation spectrum showed sufficient vibrational structure to yield ngr;tilde;rsquo;rsquo;2sim;454 cmminus;1, ngr;tilde;rsquo;1sim;955 cmminus;1, and ngr;tilde;2sim;411 cmminus;1. This new process, which had sgr;le;3times;10minus;20cm2, was proposed to result from theDtilde;thinsp;2B2larr;Xtilde;thinsp;2A1transition. Several new photodissociation cross section measurements on N2O+have also been made in the vicinities of 3381 and 4880 Aring;, taking advantage of the high sensitivity (rarr;10minus;21cm2) of the triple quadrupole system.
