The vibronic quantum beat in pumpndash;probe experiments is studied for two types of experimental setups for the probe pulse, i.e., dispersing the pulse before and after the transmission through the sample. The induced transmittance is described as a coupling of a probe field and the thirdhyphen;order polarization. The thirdhyphen;order polarization is derived as a perturbative solution in which intramolecular vibrations are fully taken into account. On the basis of the resultant formulas, the effect of the bandpass of the monochromator is discussed. Numerical analyses are presented to demonstrate some aspects of the vibronic quantum beat.
