High resolution (350 Hz) measurements of hyperfine structure on theJequals;5,Kequals;3 inversion transition in NH3are reported. The average nitrogen quadrupole coupling strength is minus;393.90plusmn;0.08 kHz. This value is in excellent agreement with a value predicted by Hougen's theory describing distortion corrections to quadrupole coupling in NH3and does not agree with a value calculated without the correction. The line center frequency and other hyperfine structure parameters are given.
