Wear and mechanical behavior of PM high speed steels with carbide reinforcement

Wear behaviour of M3/2 PM high speed steel (HSS) and severalcomposite made by additions of TaC and NbC particles, were studied.Cu_3P was added as sintering activator and natural graphite Was addedto compensate carbon losses during sintering. Dry mixing of powderswas performed in a Ball mill for 30 minutes. The blend obtained wasdie pressed into green compacts under uniaxial Compression at 700Mpa, by using zinc stearate as die wall lubricant. These greencompacts wee Vacuum sintered in a ceramic tube furnace, at twodifferent temperatures, 1190 deg.C and 1230 deg.C.
