Effect of chemical interactions on the diapause induction in zooplankton

摘要

Chemical interactions in aquatic ecosystems received considerable attention in recent years. Intensive research on the topic during the last decades demonstrated that chemicals exuded by conspecifics, competitors or predators induce various morphological, physiological, and behavioural responses in zoo-plankton. The present mini-review is focused on the role chemical signals play in the switch from asexual to sexual reproduction in zooplankton.
