Copperhyphen;doped zinc 2,6hyphen;pyridinedicarboxylate (dipicolinate) exhibits electron paramagnetic resonance absorption characteristic of a coupled pair of cupric ions in low symmetry, as attested by observed transitions at halfhyphen;field. Intensity measurements performed at different temperatures indicate that the triplet state lies lower, and have permitted the determination of the coupling parameterJ.A study of the main spectrum in polycrystalline samples has led to approximate values of the magnetic parameters characterizing Zeeman, hyperfine, and zerohyphen;field terms. From the Zeeman and hyperfine parameters, and a study of the optical absorption, electron wavefunctions in each ion have been derived. Approximate values for the electron localization in excited states are also proposed. Values for the distance between ions have been calculated after an analysis of the zerohyphen;field splitting parameter.
