In future broadband mobile communication systems, much higher data rate transmission services are expected. The distance from base stations where signal to interference and noise ratio can be sufficiently maintained becomes shorter in the transmission of higher bit-rate data when transmit power is limited. The multi-hop connection scheme is one of the promising approaches to overcome the reduction in a cell coverage. Because frequency resources are limited in wireless communication system, and relay transmission consume a part of frequency resource, applying multihop connection may descrese system throughput. In this paper, two resource assignment schemes for relay channel are investigated in the term of area coverage and system throughput by performing the link level simulation. The results show that frequency resource assignment scheme gives the better performance than that of frequency sharing assignment scheme.
