AS A WAY TO ENCOURAGE use of Brazilian sugar cane ethanol in the US, the US Senate voted 73-27 on June 16 to repeal the 54φ/gal tariff currently levied on imported ethanol that will go into effect June 30. As part of the same vote, lawmakers also eliminated the 45φ/gal volumetric ethanol excise tax credit (VEETC) currendy given to ethanol blenders.
