For the past few years, China has been investing in oil supplies in Africa to provide for its rapidly-expanding economy. Under a j.v. between Chad and China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), a refinery was built north of Ndjamena, the capital of Chad. The 20K-b/d Djarmaya refinery began production on June 29, and is capable of boosting capacity to 60K b/d if demand increase in the future.
