The Murphy and Boggs theory as extended by Mehrotra and Boggs to rotational and vibrational levels is applied to compute the collision induced linewidths of the first overtone band of HFndash;X (X = H2, D2, N2, and CO2) systems. The results are compared with experments of Merdithetal. TheJdependence of the linewidth is well explained when the perturbers are N2and CO2, but the agreement is poor for the light perturbers H2and D2.
