The ionhyphen;molecule reactions leading to the formation ofSiCH2plus;,SiCH3plus;,SiCH4plus;, andSiCH5plus;in the silanehyphen;methane system are reported along with relative and absolute rate constants for the observed reactions.CH3plus;,CH4plus;, andCH5plus;are observed to undergo Hminus;transfer reactions with large rate constants. The primary ions Siplus;andCH3plus;did not react to form products containing siliconhyphen;carbon bonds. It is therefore concluded that methylisilanes produced in activated silanehyphen;methane systems (discharges, nuclear recoil experiments, etc.) do not result from reactions of Siplus;andsol;orCH3plus;at thermal kinetic energies.
