A Zeeman study of the nuclear quadrupole resonance transition of63Cu in KCu(CN)2has determined the nuclear quadrupole coupling constante2Qqzzto be 60.9plusmn;0.6 Mc/sec and the electrichyphen;fieldhyphen;gradient asymmetry parameter eegr; to be 0.78plusmn;0.07. The crystal contains two physically inequivalent copperhyphen;atom sites giving rise to two zerohyphen;splitting loci. The direction of the principal electrichyphen;fieldhyphen;gradientzaxis is nearly normal to the triangular plane formed by two carbon atoms and a nitrogen atom about each copper atom.
