The luminescent emission spectra of the members of the series Y1mdash;xTbxantipyrene6I3and Ca1ndash;2xNaxTbxWO4have been measured and compared. The antipyrene complexes show spectra similar to that for terbium octahydrosulfate which is a simple inverted multiplet. The tungstate spectra results from emissions originating from two electronic levels. The relative intensities of the emissions from these two states are dependent upon the terbium concentration. In Na0.5Tb0.5WO4the usual spectral bands are by far the stronger. In CaWO4:Tb0.0001the situation is reversed.
