The phase diagram of antimony pentachloride has been measured in the range minus;60ndash;160thinsp;deg;C and 0ndash;43 kbar to test the suggestion that the molecular solid ought to transform to an ionic solid, such as SbCl4+SbCl6minus;or SbCl4+Clminus;, under pressure. In the experimental pressure range, it does not. The equilibrium lines for the Lndash;I, Lndash;II, and Indash;II transitions and their volume and entropy changes were determined.
