The theory of Rayleigh and Raman resonance vibrational transition amplitudes for the case of intermediate continuum vibronic states is considered. An extended polarizability theory similar to that of Placzek for the nonresonance case is given. Detailed calculations on the transition amplitudes for H+2using an exact Kramersndash;Heisenbergndash;Dirac expression and the extended polarizability expression show good agreement between the two methods.
