Recently, Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) is promising in the mobile communication field. MANETs do not use any control station like Base Stations (BS), and construct temporary connected networks only with Mobile Stations (MS). So far, the routing protocol has been mainly researched for MANETs. However, the research in the future should consider the network capacity. The scale of the networks will grow because of an increase in the number of MSs. Consequently we pay attention at the maximum transmission rate in the data transmission for MANETs. This is a method to control the transmission rate according to the traffic load in the networks. We propose the Variable Transmission Rate Control for MANETs. As a result, it is possible to increase the channel occupancy of a communication path from the source MS to the destination MS. The data transfer can be done in a short time. Therefore, the call dropping due to the mobility of MSs during the communications is improved, and effective data transmission can be realized.
