The fluorescence spectra produced from KrF laser (248.5 nm) excitation of O2adsorbed on aerosol surfaces were observed. The aerosols were produced from the reaction of O3+C2H4or O3+C2H4+SO2in O2or N2in a gashyphen;flow reactor. The fluorescence spectra were identified as the O2(Athinsp;3sum;+u,Arsquo;thinsp;3Dgr;u, andcthinsp;1sum;minus;urarr;Xthinsp;3sum;minus;g) Herzberg systems. The molecular fluorescence intensity was greatly enhanced by the aerosol surface. The possible mechanisms for the enhancement of the observed fluorescence by surface are discussed.
