Generalization of Stormer Theory for an Axisymmetric Superposition or Dipole and Quadrupole Fields

abstract_textpClassical Stormer theory is generalized to the case of an axisymmetric superposition of dipole and quadrupole fields. The basic laws of the charged particle motion in certain azimuthally symmetric magnetic configurations are investigated. The allowed and forbidden regions of particle motion, and also the capture regions, which ensure the stable existence of radiation belts, are identified./p/abstract_text
