An iterative scheme has been used to derive a pulse sequence, compensated for offhyphen;resonance and rf inhomogeneity pulse errors, which implements a pgr;/2 rotation of the spin density operator around a wellhyphen;defined axis in the transverse plane. A fixed point analysis is applied to this and other iterative schemes revealing the source and nature of the compensation. Contrasting features of the different schemes are uniquely revealed by this analysis. General considerations for the construction of iterative schemes with other stable fixed sets are considered.
