The lifetimes and quantum yields of fluorescence from 22 vibronic states of C6D6and 59 vibronic states of C6H5F have been determined under ``free molecule'' conditions. It is found that the dependence of nonhyphen;radiative lifetime on number of quanta of excess vibrational energy follows a pattern similar to that observed for C6H6. Calculations of the energy dependence of tgr;nrby Heller, Freed, and Gelbart are in good agreement with the observations. An ancillary consequence of the study of the lifetimes of vibronic states of C6H5F is the suggested reassignment of five transitions.
