Shell binding energies of neutral atoms: Comparison between theory and experiment

We propose an analytic approximation scheme to obtain a simple formula for the shell binding energiesEnsof neutral atoms which gives accurate results over the entire range of the atomic numberZup to 84. Inclusion of Fermindash;Amaldi correction leads to significant improvement of our numerical results for the lighter atoms as compared to other theoretical predictions.
