The onehyphen; and twohyphen;body clusters for a lowhyphen;density adsorbed quantum gas are calculated, including effects of the periodic structure of the substrate by a perturbation expansion in powers of the Fourier amplitudes of the adatomhyphen;substrate potential. The formalism is applied to helium adsorbed on basal plane graphite and quantitative comparisons are made with experimental data. Effects of substratehyphen;mediated interactions and of adatom vibrations perpendicular to the adsorbing surface are included. Other possible applications of the formalism are examined.
