Urban soil highly polluted with heavy metals has been subjected to bath experiments to follow the change in metal speciation within the aquatic environment. It was found that labile fractions of Cu, Zn and Ni were reduced, while Cd and Pb bioavailability increased during the experiment. High levels of pollution and changes in speciation leading to urban soil redeposition in fluviolacustrian environments are a serious threat to aquatic organisms.
