The properties of the excited electronic states of coupled molecular aggregates, which include ligandhyphen;polymer complexes and crystals with interstitial impurities, are considered using two versions of second quantized exciton theory. The first version makes use of the dipole approximation and assumes that one aggregate is not disturbed or distorted by the presence of the other. The second version is not restricted to dipole interactions or undistorted host aggregates. Illustrative calculations are presented for the exciton interactions between dyes externally bound to a helical polymer.
