The rate constant for the reaction Cl+NO+N2rarr;k1ClNO+N2, of interest in stratospheric chemistry, has been measured by the flash photolysisndash;resonance fluorescence technique over the temperature range 200ndash;400 K. The measured rate constants obey the Arrhenius equationk1,N2= (1.18plusmn;0.10) times;10minus;32thinsp;explsqb;(532plusmn;20)/Trsqb; cm6thinsp;moleculeminus;2thinsp;secminus;1. At room temperature with the two additional third bodies, He and Ar, the measured termolecular rate constants arek1,He= (4.11plusmn;0.20) times;10minus;32andk1,Ar= (4.40plusmn;0.30) times;10minus;32cm6moleculeminus;2thinsp;secminus;1. These results are theoretically discussed and are compared with previous work.
