The EU's 2018 Strategy for Plastics in a Circular Economy aims to ensure that half of all plastic packaging used in the EU is either reusable or cost-effectively recycled by 2025.By 2030,the target is that all EU plastic packaging meets the same criteria.Last May,the American Chemistry Council(ACC)'s plastics division announced that its members had agreed that 100 of plastic packaging in the US would be recyclable or recoverable by 2030.Gunter Stephan,Head of Circular Economy Solutions at Austrian petrochemical and plastics producer Borealis,told SP Global Platts on Jan.18 that global plastics recycling is likely to triple by 2030.“Currently we see 10-12 of plastics in circulation being recycled.That is a relatively low figure,fit's definitely not enough or the level we think it should be.” Stephan said growth in plastics recycling will depend on improvements in collection and sorting.
