Ion pair production by electron impact on H2and CO: Kinetic energy distributions and threshold behavior

Kinetic energy distributions and ion efficiency curves are obtained for ion pair production by electron impact on H2and CO. The results are used to test the hypothesis that, if the threshold behavior of the cross section can be described by a step function, the first derivative of the ion efficiency curve should reflect the total kinetic energy distribution of the ion pairs.
