Reply to ’’Comments on the spectroscopic analysis of a high‐density plasma’’

The alternative interpretation of previously reported data is critically examined, and several inherent weaknesses of such an interpretation are discussed. The difficulties raised are real, however, and their recognition has recently led to a revised interpretation of the experimental data, the essential elements of which are presented here.
