Absorption characteristics of CO2molecules dissolved in ZrF4hyphen;based glass are measured using a Fourier transform spectral attenuation measurement system. Absorptions due to vibrational modes appear at 2353, 3606, and 3716 cmminus;1, respectively. The influence of the CO2impurity on transmission loss is clarified. The interaction between dissolved CO2molecules and the glass matrix is discussed on the basis of the measured spectra.
